Excel Advanced Plus

Excel has many useful functions.  We will take a look at the Index and Match, and also at the new xlookup function which can achieve the same results.

We will also look at the Ifs group of functions, that allow us to ask questions of Excel, and then perform a function on that data if it meets a particular criteria.

There are also a number of new dynamic functions in Excel which change as the data changes.  These make filtering easier and quicker and avoid the limitations encountered by autofilter.

Finally we will look at how we can use Power Query to group and consolidate Excel files.

  •  Index and Match/xlookup
  • Sumifs/countifs/averageifs/ifs
  •  Dynamic functions

Dynamic functions allow you to work with live data without having to go into Power Query, and reduce the need to use Autofilter.  As you update your source data, the function will automatically update.

  • Filter, Sort, Sequence and Unique (these functions enable the extraction of data to easily and quick solve complicated problems.)
  • Take, Wrap Rows/Wrap Columns, Choose Rows/Choose Columns allow you to easily grab chunks of data from a source.
  • Power Query
  • Combine Files
  • Combine Multiple Sheets

Power Query

Are you still using Sort and Filter in Excel? Power Query comes with Excel, and is like autofilter on steroids! You can move columns around, easily remove unwanted columns, sort, filter and join/split data. The end result is cleaned data, set out in the way your want.
